Bruises

So last Monday I went snowboarding and at the end of the day I was tired but pumped because I made it down the hill several times without killing myself or wounding others. However I didn't escape any damage, as I found my knees were banged up and I had an egg-sized bruise forming on the back of my left calf. Not to mention a couple of blisters from my new boots, but those were relatively minor. Imagine my surprise, 4 days later, to find TWO MORE egg-sized bruises on the back of my right leg. Odd place for them, I tell ya. Must have got them when that guy fell on top of me. At any rate... I am starting to heal now (bruises turning a nice shade of purply-green)... and despite the injury... I have taken the plunge and bought a board. Will rave about it later. Happy New Year!

On the third day of Christmas...

... I decided I want a snowboard for my birthday.

(That, after one full day with my brothers at Cypress Mountain, hard work falling on my knees and trying to turn properly, and wondering if I am in fact "regular" vs. "goofy." Hmm.)

On the first day of Christmas, my karma kicked in for me...

    ... a malfunctioning speedometer
    ... and thus malfunctioning odometer
... cat allergies on top of the cold I am fighting
    ... "check engine" light
... restless sleep due to laboured breathing

But wait, it wasn't that bad... aside from that, here are some of the cool things that happened:
... watching cousins open Christmas gifts ("Where's my Monster Truck!")
... watching one-year-old cousin eat... and eat... and eat...
... receiving a record number (three) gift certificates from The Gap, Sport Mart, and Spa Utopia
... receiving a record number (six) bottles of wine
... shiny pajamas (jury's still out on that one)
... getting plastic tub organizer for crafting/paper supplies
    ... long distance phone calls

I didn't really do much Boxing Day shopping except to use my Sport Mart gift certificate to buy snowboard boots. I got 'em. Now need to kit myself up with the rest of the gear (e.g. actual snowboard...)

"Money doesn't grow on trees... especially Christmas trees..."

So why is the White House spending money on this trifle??? Click on the link to find Miss Beazley.

Okay I have to admit, the dog is pretty cute and the "movie" is pretty funny. Especially the part where they have to replace all the blue ornaments with red (sly Republicans). But still. I protest. Give your troops some bulletproof glass or something. Sheesh.

    Yay Safeway...

... they called me this afternoon to tell me they had my coin purse and ID (not to mention bank card and Visa) in their Lost & Found. Now I had already known this, because apparently they called my Visa company, and I had tried to get a hold of them before but apparently my cards were in the Safeway safe under lock & key and only the manager could access it. However, that must have changed because the Bag Boy Chris called me to say they still had it... so off to Safeway (at City Square!) I went, lo and behold, my beloved London Oasis turquoise green leather coin purse and the (now-useless-because-they-had-been-replaced) cards. However, no mention of the $12.00 and some odd cents that were in the coin purse before I lost it. Hmmmm.

Bag Boy Chris looked at my cards and remarked, "Hey you look a lot darker in your picture... were you tanned?" And my answer was, probably not since that pic was taken in January in the dead of winter and I haven't been on a winter sunny vacation since 2001/2002... must have been the lighting, or the fact that I have just recently (i.e. today) come down with a cold. Also a little worrisome that this dude has commented on how I look, perhaps he is obsessed with that picture? Or me? Or maybe I shouldn't look into it too much. Maybe I shouldn't look into it too much.

Anyway, that was pretty nice. Three cheers for Safeway! And Bag Boy Chris!

    Happy New Year

To celebrate the end of the Year of Teresa, my company's owner and his family decided to buy me lunch on Friday. And it wasn't so much that it was the end of the Year of (the Travelling) Teresa (or whatnot) that is was my 2-year anniversary at my job. And they didn't really realize they were getting me lunch for that occasion until I said, "So, you're getting my lunch because it's my anniversary here today?" And supposedly a lightbulb went on in their heads and said... "Oh yeah..." As opposed to say, they were just being nice and buying me lunch just for the hell of it... cuz they were going to get lunch. Which was nice... if I was a stronger person I would have put my foot down over the choice of lunch (A&W... from boycotted location) but oh well. May as well bury the hatchet on that one.

Dan the Biznatch had a birthday/Christmas/Hanukkah party last night. His condo is literally less than 600 sq. ft. but managed to get a LOT of people over. I suppose it helps that he has a great big sun deck (whose square footage is actually larger than his living space) that even at night is a happening place to be. Great view of the Fitness World, and 10-year-old unfinished office building. He had a heat lamp and a canopy tent and everything. Dan throws great parties. Rum & coke = good; Jag & orange juice = nooooooo.

I hereby declare the Year of Teresa over on Dec. 17, 2004. It has been the Year of Teresa for 2 years now, and although there were lots of positives (travelling, life experience, yadda yadda yadda), I'm not sure if I'm more ahead than I was two years ago.

FUN = playing zig-zag on your way to your car in the mall parking lot. With people following you in their cars trying to snag your space.

In other Christmas news, package from Flying Pear has arrived at the local post office. Stay tuned for details on when I pick it up.

YESTERDAY I went to a tourism industry Christmas party for CITAP (Canadian Inbound Tourism - Asia Pacific), hung out with my bosses and schmoozed with clients. It's really too bad I'm bad with names and faces. I collected a few business cards. We had "roasted game ham" which was misspelled in our menu - turned out to be "hen" but it had me wondering... what is roasted game ham anyway? Wild boar?

On Monday I went to see The Music with Niko. It's been a while since I've been to one of those concerts with a mosh pit. 'Twas pretty good, and I was glad we were at the back in the balcony, made for an easy escape afterwards. Tonight we are going to see Keane, which should be more mellow. If D Mushroom is reading this, I will try to insult Tom Chaplin for you but no promises, k? Thx.

    Dear Overseas Friends,

(and when I mean 'Overseas Friends' I mean Attention Whore, since Flying Pear can't read my website from China)

I have finished my Christmas shopping. I am going to the post office today. Don't expect anything fancy. Hopefully it will arrive in time for Christmas!

After what I thought would be a frugal Christmas this year (due to gift consolidating) I am sad to report I now have $56.25 left to my name until payday... next Wednesday. Gaaaaah!

Hmm. Maybe I should exchange all my leftover sterling and US dollars. Damn you useless foreign currency. And damn you strong Canadian dollar!

    32 inches of... Christmas...

    Oh.

    My.

    God.

So I got home from work today, walked in to the living room and surprise! Christmas tree is up, complete with the 10 gold angels my mother insisted on buying last week at Tracy's family's craft fair (I managed to convince her to scale back the amount from the original 20 she wanted to pick up), ribbon and sparkly things.

Then after dinner I came home from my 'walk' with Blondie, to find that my brother was putting together the family Christmas present in the family room - a new home theatre system. The 32" flat screen arrives on Friday, apparently... so it looks like we're not going to have to unwrap anything this year? Maybe we'll just stick on a bow and toast having a decent TV for once.

On the upside, paying up now means I'll have more cash in the new year. Until then I guess I can stay home and finally watch Braveheart! Or learn how to use the X-BOX. <sigh.>
